Do's and Don'ts

  • Don't wait in lineto see the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, now the second tallest building in the U.S. Wait times to get to the 103-floor Skydeck are brutal.

  • Do buy a $40 Fast Pass ticketthat will get you to the top in no time. And even if you buy a regular priced ticket ($19), buy it in advance online to save time.

  • Don't only eat Deep-Dish Pizza served at spots like Giordano's or Lou Malnati's.If you think that's all the locals are eating — it's NOT.

  • Do visit Vito & Nick's or Candlelitewhere they serve some of the best square-cut, thin crust pizza you've ever had. As a matter of fact, Chicago is home to a diverse dining scene.

  • Don't waste your money on Broadway shows.In recent years, Chicago has become the place for big-budget shows to work out their kinks before opening in NYC.

  • Do buy tickets for productions at legendary local theatreslike the Goodman, Steppenwolf, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Or check out Second City. Chicago is home to fantastic improv comedy.

  • Don't put ketchup on your hot dog.Violating this rule will immediately identify you as a tourist. You might even get a few dirty looks.

  • Do try mustard, sweet pickle relish, tomato slices, raw onions, a dill pickle spear, even celery salt.The outstanding spots to attempt such a feat are Portillo's, Wiener and Still Champion, and Wolfy's.

  • Don't just shop on Michigan Avenue, Chicago's "Magnificent Mile."It's home to a dizzying number of stores, many of which you can find closer to home.

  • Do extend your shopping experience beyond the "Mile."Try Wicker Park and Bucktown, where you'll find independent clothing and jewelry boutiques, antique furniture shops, and specialty gift shops.

Trains and Buses 

Trains and buses provide convenient transportation to and from the airport, city, and suburbs.

Airport Shuttles 

Airport shuttles offer a convenient alternative for traveling to and from O'Hare. Going to O'Hare from the city or suburbs? Trying to reach a hotel from the airport? Take the shuttle. There are several shuttle services available at O'Hare. You'll find them at the Bus/Shuttle Center, which is located on the main level of the parking garage between Elevator Centers 3 and 4. 

Go Airport Express

Go Airport Express offers daily, door-to-door service to/from O'Hare and most city and suburban neighborhoods. They begin operations in the early morning hours and depart approximately every 10 to 15 minutes from each terminal.  

Location: Shuttles pick up outside the Baggage Claim area. They use the innermost lane of the lower level roadways for  the Domestic and International Terminals. Advanced notice is strongly urged. To contact Go Airport Express, call 1-888-284-3826 or visit their website.

Taxi Service 

Getting to and from O'Hare by taxi is easy and convenient.

Leaving O'Hare

There are Taxi Stands at the lower-level curb front (outside of Baggage Claim) at each terminal. Service is available to the City and suburban destinations. Make sure to use the designated Taxi Stands to ensure you have a licensed driver. For your protection, do not accept rides from drivers outside the cab stand or on the departure level (second level) of the terminal roadways. All taxis should have a working meter to calculate the fare based on time and mileage.

  • Fares are based on traffic conditions. An average fare from O'Hare to downtown Chicago is $30-40.

  • Shared ride service is available. You pay a flat rate to certain destinations if multiple parties are available for the trip. Shared ride fares from O'Hare include:

    • Downtown ($24 per person)

    • McCormick Place ($24 per person)

    • Midway International Airport ($37 per person)

Rental Cars

There are a variety of options for car rentals. Each rental company offers FREE, 24 hour shuttle service. The shuttles pick up at the Arrival curbfront at the lower level, outside of Baggage Claim. Each terminal has designated areas on the outermost curb front where you board shuttles. For specific information on hours of operation, contact the individual rental car companies servicing O'Hare:
